Stats, notes from July 8

I spent most of Wednesday night’s games catching up on some interviews for the next couple weeks, so not much in terms of notes on how the night went. Here are a few things worth mention, though, then the statistical highlights:

-Iowa State’s Bubu Palo, who turns 18 today (July 9), had a terrific game, scoring 25 points on 7-of-19 shooting in MOHA’s 91-82 win against the YMCA team. He did a little bit of a Dominique Buckley move, making his mark on the game very quietly. It wasn’t until late in the game that I even noticed he’d been having so much success.

-MOHA and Palo won without ISU starting point guard Diante Garrett, who attended all three games and sat on the bench with his teammates for a while, despite breaking a bone in his foot. More on that can be found here: http://www.gocyclones.com/news.php?ID=1683

-Also absent were Jamie Vanderbeken and L.A. Pomlee, who I’m told didn’t make it back from working ISU travel camp in time to compete. Both should be at the remaining two games.

-Former UNI player Matt Schneiderman did not attend. Neither did Drake point guard Josh Young.

-Friday’s playoff games will feature Peak Performance vs. Capital City Orthopaedics at 6:45 p.m. and YMCA vs. MOHA at 8 p.m. There will be no 5:30 game. Site is the Valley High gym.
